The East Fremantle Football Club is excited with the news that Matt Taylor, the Liberal for Bicton, is campaigning for the redevelopment of EFFC Oval. “Given that most of the land in the precinct is Crown land it makes sense to work with Landcorp on the next phase of the project. For the past nine months a reference group with representatives from the City, state government departments, local sporting clubs, Notre Dame University, Fremantle Prison and Fremantle Chamber of Commerce has been working to develop the broad vision and design principles for the redevelopment.

The City of Fremantle has taken the next step towards the redevelopment of the historic Fremantle Oval precinct. What is the Fremantle Oval redevelopment project.

The first survey, available for all ages, garnered 85 responses, confirming the strong interest in the future of the Precinct, and support for:• The Precinct remaining an A-Class Reserve• Retaining the heritage of the area• Providing both active and passive recreation for all ages and abilities. This survey builds upon the previous community consultation undertaken by GHD Advisory however, a second round of consultation was undertaken as the results now collated will assist with informing a preferred masterplan design for the whole precinct, with an associated business plan informing operational structure and funding strategy for the project. At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 21 May 2019 Council endorsed the East Fremantle Oval Precinct Revitalisation Vision Report as a guiding document for the possible future development of the site. There are a number of heritage considerations as part of the project and experts and agencies will be consulted throughout the redevelopment process. The Fremantle Football Club currently holds a lease over Fremantle Oval until 2054. This will include community consultation.

Some key items that were addressed during this process are;• The location and size of the Community Facility• The inclusion of additional entry / egress points• The provision of additional onsite parking• Landscaping to facilitate the removal of all fences • A tiered approach to soften the visual amenity from lower-lying areas• Retainment of existing trees where possible, in conjunction with additional plantings• Structuring of the informal drop-off zone to ensure the best use of the area• The undertaking of a traffic engineering assessment.
